Treatments

A concise overview of the main fertility and reproductive medicine treatment options.

TREATMENTS • REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

The Right Treatment Starts with the Right Assessment.

There is no single treatment pathway that is right for everyone with infertility. Age, medical history, ovarian reserve, semen parameters and previous treatment experience are assessed together to plan an approach that is appropriate for you.

PERSONALISED TREATMENT

Every Patient’s Story Is Different; the Treatment Plan Should Be Too.

Infertility is not always caused by a female factor alone or a male factor alone. In some couples, more than one factor needs to be considered at the same time.

Before treatment begins, available test results, pregnancy history, ovarian reserve, hormonal assessments, semen analysis and previous treatment outcomes are reviewed together. The aim is not simply to choose a procedure, but to place the steps that are genuinely needed in the right order.

MAIN TREATMENT AREAS

Main Approaches That May Be Considered After Assessment.

Treatment is selected according to the couple’s medical characteristics, the cause of infertility, age and previous treatment experience.

01

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)

A multi-stage assisted reproduction treatment that may include ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, embryology laboratory procedures and embryo transfer.

02

Infertility

Assessment of possible female and male factors using medical history, clinical examination and the investigations considered necessary.

03

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

A fertilisation technique used during the IVF laboratory stage, in which a selected sperm cell is injected directly into an egg.

04

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

For suitable patients, a prepared semen sample is placed in the uterus at the appropriate time in the cycle.

CHOOSING TREATMENT

There Is No Single Answer to “Which Option Is Right for Me?”

The choice between IVF, ICSI and IUI is not made on the basis of age or a single laboratory result alone. A less invasive option may be appropriate for one patient, while IVF may be the more suitable approach for another.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions About Choosing a Treatment.

Does every patient with infertility need IVF?

No. Treatment choice is based on several factors considered together, including the cause of infertility, age, ovarian reserve, semen parameters, tubal status and previous treatments.

Are IVF and ICSI the same thing?

No. IVF refers to the overall treatment process; ICSI is a fertilisation technique that may be used during the laboratory stage.

How many times should IUI be attempted?

There is no single number that applies to every patient. Age, duration of infertility, semen parameters and the outcome of previous attempts are reassessed before deciding on the next step.
